Comparision protocols for extraction of microplastics in water samples

Microplastics (MPs) are increasingly recognized as emerging pollutants in various environmental components. However, protocols for sampling, analysis, and standardization of measurements MPs research still under development. The extraction method is a crucial factor that affects the accuracy comparability microplastic abundance data. In this study, we evaluated compared effectiveness four different (D, MJ, MA, S) separating from water samples types (brackish, marine, river water). Known combinations MP particles (polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polystyrene (PS), polyvinyl chloride (PVC)) with sizes ranging between 150 μm 700 were spiked into samples. Our results showed average recovery efficiency microplastics using studied methods ranged 53% to 86%. Notably, light-density was higher than heavy-density MPs. For purified (PW) obtained filtration system, only H2O2 effective recovering an 80 ± 6.61%. S extraction, which combines SDS, Bioenzyme, 30%, saturated salt solution NaCl, gave highest 78.13 2.39% PW 69.72 4.81% surface water.
